South America
The South American section is planted to the right of the back lawn, next to the Rainforest. The golden Tabebuia (Tabebuia chrystotricha) is generally in blossom in September), a spectacular sight.
There is also a purple form of Tabebuia (longifolia) planted close to the entrance to the rainforest, and this blossoms earlier (August).
Jacarandas ranging in colour from white to pink and the more familiar mauve, Cassias, and Sennas have spectacular blossoms, making this an area much photographed in spring and summer. The leopard tree is famous for the beautiful blotched bark on the trunk.
The Tibouchina Walk displays 7 species of this diverse family. Flowers vary in colour from pink to brilliant purple and white, and the plants range in height from 50 cm. to 3 metres.
