Japan
"Japan" is a work in progress.

In May 2008 representatives from our sister city of Sasebo came to Coffs Harbour to instruct and advise on the building of this section. A Japanese Garden is not just a collection of plants, but also encompasses cultural and traditional aspects which make this an exciting place. Building started with rocks placed strategically near the lake, rich soil brought in and paths now wind through the new garden. A zigzag bridge leads across the creek from the waterfall. The teahouse has been built over the eastern end of the lake, with a Zen Garden immediately behind it. A Pagoda entrance at the south east was built by TAFE students. A children's spiral labyrinth has been built and planted, and is already a favourite with youngsters. Two more structures are planned, and planting has begun around the lake.

The Koinobori kites fly over the bridge in the Japanese section. A gift from the people of Sasebo, these kites fly over and around the lake on Childrens' Day (first Sunday in May) each year.
